The holiday season is here, and with it comes the perfect excuse to get out, shop for gifts, and explore the local scene. At Brew Crew Magazine, we believe every errand is an opportunity for adventure. This past weekend, between bustling craft markets and cozy family time, we set out to discover three standout beverage destinations in the Malta and Ballston Spa, NY area. Here’s our journey: a beloved favorite, a heartfelt farewell, and an exciting new find.

The Favorite: Active Ingredient Brewing Company

Location: Sitwell Plaza, 2443 US-9 Suite 301, Malta, NY 12020
Phone: (518) 289-5520
Website: activeingredientbrewing.com

Active Ingredient Brewing Company is a Brew Crew staple—so much so that it was featured in our November issue. Its Malta location is ideal for a Saturday outing, and it’s the perfect spot for lunch. We arrived right as the doors opened at noon and enjoyed a delicious burger, a fresh wrap, and some unforgettable truffle parmesan fries, all paired with a flight or two.

Must-try: Delta-Red Plum—a current favorite that’s not to be missed.

The Farewell: Unified Beerworks

Location: 7 Old Stonebreak Rd #4, Malta, NY 12020
Phone: (518) 289-5078
Website: unified-beerworks.com

Unified Beerworks recently announced they’ll be closing at the end of December—a bittersweet moment for local beer lovers. Known for a diverse selection that caters to every palate and a welcoming atmosphere, Unified has been a community favorite One of my favorite memories involves driving home from Unified Beerworks when Scott and I started dating, moonroof open and Zac Brown playing on a warm autumn night.

Thank you, Unified, for the good times and great beers. You’ll be missed.

The New Find: The Still at Speckled Pig

Location: 11-13 Washington St, Ballston Spa, NY 12020
Phone: (518) 288-3075
Website: thestillatspeckledpig.com

After months of anticipation, The Still at Speckled Pig has finally opened its doors. We’ve watched the transformation of this space with excitement, and it does not disappoint. While Speckled Pig is already a go-to for craft beer and wood-fired pizza, The Still elevates the experience with sophisticated cocktails and upscale fare.

The olive plate looked enticing – I’m a sucker for olives at any time.
